Lechonk in depth
A dehesa piglet
The design is based on a young pig, specifically the image of the Iberian pig associated with the Iberian Peninsula. The dark grey body, brown face and pink snout fit that reference. Its low, rounded silhouette presents it as a land animal that roots around for food, but the detail about its scent gives its diet a specific function: the herbal aroma it gives off drives Bug-type Pokémon away.
The inspiration also extends to its behaviour. Pigs have a highly developed sense of smell, and some are used to locate valuable food. In Lechonk’s case, that search takes up the whole day. It is neither a predator nor a disciplined fighter: it gets scared, charges forward and lets panic decide for it.
A name between hunger and size
Its Spanish and English name, Lechonk, combines “lechón”, meaning a young pig, with “chonk”, an English expression used for large or stocky animals. The combination describes its appearance without hiding the food theme. Its Japanese name, Gourton, combines the ideas of gourmet and glutton with ton, “pig” in Japanese through the kanji 豚. Both names point to the same creature: a small pig with a gourmet appetite.
The short stretch before Oinkologne
Lechonk debuted in Generation IX and has no history between generations that would allow adjustments or redesigns to be compared. Its journey is concentrated in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet: it appears as an early catch, occupies the first position in its evolutionary line and evolves into Oinkologne when it reaches level 18.
The evolution changes more than its stats. Oinkologne retains the Normal type, but separates its designs by sex, while Lechonk keeps the same appearance for males and females. This transition reinforces the idea of growing from an ordinary piglet into an adult pig with more defined features.
Conceptually, it is close to other pig-like Pokémon such as Tepig, although the focus is different. Tepig leans on fire and on a more fantastical-inspired evolutionary line; Lechonk focuses on food, smell and its clumsy reaction to danger. It also shares its low shape and its appearance as an animal exploring the terrain with Swinub, but not its type combination or icy environment.
How to make the most of it while it lasts
In a normal playthrough, it is best used early on, taking advantage of its moves before the stat gap becomes too large. Tackle provides the basic attack, Disarming Voice adds special damage and Mud Shot covers opponents vulnerable to Ground. Dig gives it a turn of protection from many direct attacks, while Yawn can force switches or set up a catch.
Aroma Veil makes more sense in Double Battles than in an ordinary adventure, especially if the team relies on choosing moves without interruptions. Gluttony justifies carrying a Berry you want to consume early, while Thick Fat improves matchups against Fire and Ice. None of the three Abilities fixes its 35 Speed or 45 Attack. Lechonk’s practical role ends when it reaches level 18 and gives way to Oinkologne.
