Oinkologne in depth
Perfume, dirt and a porcine silhouette
The design is based on a pig, with specific references to breeds from the Iberian Peninsula. The male recalls the Iberian pig through its dark colour, while the female uses brown tones and a different pattern. The ears create an almost hairstyle-like impression: on the male they fall over one side of the face, while on the female they form an asymmetrical silhouette. The tail completes the perfumery idea. The male one resembles an atomiser and the female one a tassel.
The species plays with the contradiction between the pig associated with dirt and an animal concerned with its scent and order. The female takes that idea into its behaviour: it keeps things clean and gives off a floral smell that calms other Pokémon. The male, by contrast, projects perfume from its tail and uses it to attract females.
A name built around smell
Oinkologne combines «oink», the English onomatopoeia for a pig's grunt, with «cologne», a perfume. Its Japanese name is Perfuton (パフュートン), formed from «perfume» and ton, the reading of 豚, «pig». In both languages, the combination makes it clear that smell is not a secondary detail of the design, but its central idea.
The evolution that separates its forms
Since its debut in Generation IX, Oinkologne has had two forms linked to sex. The visual difference appears when it evolves from Lechonk and extends to its Abilities, tail, colour and the levels at which some moves are learned. The male is given a more offensive, smell-focused identity, while the female is associated with grooming and calm.
It has no previous history in other generations, so its playable history is concentrated in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Within Paldea, it shares space with final evolutions with similar stats, such as Dudunsparce: both rely on high HP and useful physical Attack, but neither stands out for its Speed.
How to make the most of it without asking too much
In a regular playthrough, it is best to use its 110 HP to switch into hits that are not super effective and answer with Body Slam, High Horsepower or Double-Edge. Yawn forces the opponent to choose between switching and letting sleep progress; that pressure works best before the opponent has set up all its boosts or screens.
Gluttony fits Berries that restore HP or reduce damage, because it brings forward their consumption and lets you gain the benefit earlier than usual. Thick Fat offers more direct protection against Fire and Ice, two types that punish many Ground-based Pokémon, even though Oinkologne is still a Normal-type. Lingering Aroma is valuable when the opponent relies on a particular Ability, but it requires taking contact and does not protect against special attacks or opponents that strike from a distance.
Its special movepool is broad thanks to Earth Power, Energy Ball, Boomburst and Chilling Water, but its 59 Special Attack makes those options secondary. Its 65 Speed also advises avoiding matchups against fast attackers. Its clearest role is to wear opponents down, force switches with Yawn and take advantage of its high HP before the opponent can control the pace.
