Cetitan

A large whale serves as the basis for Cetitan’s design, with features from round-bodied cetaceans such as the right whale and bowhead whale. Its fins, legs, and horns set it apart from a real whale and give it the appearance of a creature capable of moving across land and ice. The horn on its upper jaw stores icy energy until it freezes everything around it, while its muscles and the layer of fat beneath its skin protect its body in snowy areas.

The Pokédex entries in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet portray it wandering through cold areas and using that combination of strength and fat as a defense. Its body measures 4.5 m and weighs 700 kg, so it does not go unnoticed in the mountains of Paldea. It lives in herds and shares territory with species such as Avalugg. It occupies the final stage of its evolutionary line: Cetoddle evolves into Cetitan when exposed to an Ice Stone.

Cetitan is not a consistent competitive choice in singles. Its base HP of 170 is its main asset, backed by 113 Attack, but its 65 Defense and 55 Special Defense leave plenty of openings. Its 73 Speed is not enough to make an impact without support either. Its 45 Special Attack rules out special moves, even though it has access to Blizzard and Ice Beam.

Slush Rush is the Ability that defines its use: it boosts its Speed when snow is active. It therefore needs a team that can keep snow up and let it attack before its mediocre defenses catch up with it. Thick Fat offers a sturdier alternative by weakening Fire- and Ice-type attacks. Sheer Force boosts power and removes secondary effects, although its physical movepool does not always make the most of that combination.

The Ice type offers good offensive coverage against Dragon, Ground, Flying, and Grass, but defensively it leaves clear weaknesses to Fire, Fighting, and Steel, as well as Rock. Icicle Crash and Ice Spinner provide physical STAB; Earthquake, High Horsepower, and Body Press cover several targets that resist Ice. In a standard battle, it works best as a late-game physical attacker, when its answers have already been weakened and it can come in with high HP.

Cetitan belongs to the Field Egg Group and has a 50% female gender ratio. Its Eggs take 25 cycles to hatch, equivalent to roughly 6630 steps. It has no Egg Moves that shape its breeding, so the choice of parents focuses on the Nature, Ability, and moves worth preserving through the available mechanics.

The evolution is straightforward: Cetoddle evolves into Cetitan when exposed to an Ice Stone. It does not depend on level, friendship, or a specific time of day. In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, it can be found in snowy areas such as Glaseado Mountain, so it is also possible to add one to a team during the adventure without breeding one.

Its catch rate is 50, which puts it in the difficult range: it is not an effortless catch, so it is worth bringing enough Poké Balls, weakening it carefully, and taking advantage of status conditions if they are available. The species can breed with compatible Pokémon from the Field Egg Group and yields 2 HP EVs.
