Ogerpon

In Kitakami, Ogerpon is closely tied to the Festival of Masks, where it blends in with the crowd by hiding its face. Ogerpon is curious about human life and has a mischievous nature, although it also knows how to defend itself when someone takes something it considers its own. Its plant-like body extends branches and vines, and beneath its cloak it keeps a club covered in ivy. The mask is not simply decorative: it concentrates energy from different types and changes its appearance, abilities and way of battling.

Its design combines a humanoid figure made of wood and plants with the features of an oni from Japanese legends. The vine horns, fangs and hidden face reinforce that image, while the fruit on its face adds a stranger, more plant-like detail. Ogerpon has no evolutionary line: it appears as an independent species. It has four forms associated with its masks, including the Grass-type base form and three others that change its type combination.

It does have a place in competitive battling. Its distribution is straightforward: 80 HP, 120 Attack, 84 Defense, 60 Special Attack, 96 Special Defense and 110 Speed. It moves before many opponents and hits hard on the physical side, but it should not be exposed to super-effective attacks or relied on to survive long exchanges.

Defiant is the ability that defines its base form: it raises Attack when an opponent lowers its stats. This is especially punishing against drops caused by opposing moves or abilities. Intimidate, for example, does not leave it weakened; instead, it can give Ogerpon the boost it needs to hit back.

Ivy Cudgel is its signature move and provides a very reliable source of Grass-type damage. Knock Off removes held items and punishes those who switch in expecting to resist it, while U-turn lets it keep the momentum after forcing a switch. Swords Dance turns a favourable entry into an immediate threat, and it also has support options such as Taunt, Spikes and Encore.

Grass resists Water, Ground, Electric and Grass, but leaves it exposed to Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice and Poison. In OU, it works as a physical attacker, wallbreaker or offensive pivot. Its masked forms expand its type combinations, although the base form struggles against Fire- and Flying-type opponents and appreciates having the team remove hazards before making many switches.

Ogerpon is obtained in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet through The Teal Mask expansion, by progressing to the battle at the Dreaded Den and completing the part of the story devoted to its masks. After that, it can switch between its four forms by holding the corresponding mask.

It cannot breed: it belongs to the Undiscovered Egg Group, is 100% female and is a Legendary Pokémon. Because of this, there is no way to obtain offspring or pass down its Egg Moves, although Double Kick, Counter, Retaliate and Horn Leech are associated with the species.

It does not evolve and requires no evolution condition. Its catch rate is 5, so catching it is difficult, and it is worth saving the best Poké Balls or preparing status conditions. Its 50 Egg cycles would be equivalent to approximately 13,005 steps, a figure with no practical application because it does not produce Eggs.
