A peach with the roles reversed
Pecharunt's Japanese name is Momowarou. It is based on Momotaro, the protagonist of the legend about a child born from a peach, and combines the reference to “momo,” peach, with an idea of evil or inferiority. The English and Spanish names join the same peach imagery with “runt,” a small or weak offspring. The result fits its small size and the way it uses others to get what it wants.
The inspiration is not limited to its appearance. In the traditional tale, Momotaro travels with a dog, a monkey and a pheasant to face the oni. Pecharunt reverses that relationship: it subjugates Munkidori, Okidogi and Fezandipiti, turning them into tools to attack Ogerpon. The peach-shaped shell works as a twisted version of the hero's origin.
A presence hinted at earlier
Pecharunt debuted in Generation IX, in the epilogue of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Before it was shown openly, its closed shell had already appeared in connection with Ogerpon's story in The Teal Mask. This delayed introduction explains its narrative role as a hidden cause: the events involving the Loyal Three are not fully understood until reaching Mochi Mayhem.
It has not undergone any changes between generations because it did not exist in any earlier one. Its first playable appearance already established its role as a solitary species, with no evolution or alternate forms. It was also linked to the final spot in the Kitakami Pokédex, an appropriate position for a reveal reserved for the end of the downloadable content.
High Defense, controlled tempo
In OU teams, the 88/88/160/88/88/88 spread encourages a patient playstyle. Defense 160 lets it answer many physical attackers, while the other values are uniform and unremarkable. The usual plan is to come in on a hit it resists, use Malignant Chain to fish for poison and confusion, and take advantage of Recover once chip damage starts to build up.
It should not be treated as a pure attacker from the first turn. Nasty Plot lets it break slower teams, but it needs to find a safe turn and remains exposed to Ground-, Dark-, Ghost- and Psychic-type attacks. Parting Shot helps it keep control of the pace: it reduces the opposing threat and makes it easier to bring in a teammate that forces a switch.
Its Ghost typing also has tactical value. It prevents the opponent from removing entry hazards with Rapid Spin and lets it maintain pressure around Toxic Spikes or Stealth Rock. In a normal playthrough, its roles are simpler: take physical hits, poison bulky foes and recover HP as the story moves forward.
The mochi trap
The Ability Poison Puppeteer turns every successful poisoning from one of its moves into a chance to cause confusion. It is not enough to look at Malignant Chain's damage: the status condition forces the opponent to decide whether staying in is worth the risk. That mechanic sums up Pecharunt's concept better than any direct attack.
The limitation comes from targets that are immune to Poison and Pokémon that threaten it with super effective attacks before it can recover HP. Steel types cannot be poisoned, Ground types force it out and fast special attackers do not give it time to make use of its Defense. Against them, it needs support rather than a long series of face-to-face turns.
